FACE LIFT AND NECK LIFT SURGERY AND RECOVERY

During a facelift, also known as rhytidectomy, Dr. Emilio Justo will carefully remove excess skin and fatty tissue around the jaw and neck, tighten the underlying muscles and precisely re-drape the skin of your face and neck to restore a more youthful appearance. Dependent upon your goals, a facelift can be done alone or in conjunction with other facial procedures such as an endoscopic brow lift, eyelid lift, liposuction of the neck and jowls, and/or laser resurfacing, and fractional laser around the mouth or eyes.

There are numerous surgical approaches that can be used in performing a facelift. Dr. Emilio Justo typically uses a traditional approach of starting the incisions above the hairlines at the temples. The incision continues in front of the ear and downward behind the earlobe to the lower scalp. If you have decided to improve the sagging skin on your neck and remove excess skin and fat, a small incision is made under the chin.

The removal of excess skin, tightening, and redraping of the skin is done precisely so that you have natural looking results. There is no need to worry as Dr. Justo will conceal the incisions naturally in the skin folds and your hairline.

Typically, most facelift candidates range in age from 40 to 75 years of age, and in some cases even beyond. However, best results are achieved with patients who still have relatively good skin elasticity and a strong facial bone structure. Dr. Justo will review your medical history and discuss facial enhancement cosmetic options with you.

In preparation for your facelift surgery, Dr. Justo advises you to abstain from smoking one month prior to the procedure and at least one month during the recovery period in order to avoid complications. Also, consumption of aspirin and other anti-inflammatory drugs prior to facelift surgery is not recommended, since these drugs are blood thinners, and may lead to increased bleeding during the course of the facelift or post-operative hematomas.

The average facelift done today may last from 5 to 15 years, and follow-up procedures can be performed to keep you looking as good as you can for even many more years.

Dr. Justo performs facelifts in his accredited outpatient surgical center*, and you will receive detailed post-operative care instructions. Bruising and swelling usually fades within two weeks and after a few days you will be permitted to wear camouflage makeup.
