As the name implies, monofocal lenses can only give you clear vision at a single distance – therefore, most patients with monofocal IOLs either  still need reading glasses or distance glasses, or sometimes both! Some patients do choose to have “monovision” using monofocal lenses, that is, one eye for distance and one eye for near…………however, not all patients can get used to this visual imbalance plus the fact that the vision is never perfectly clear at either distance!
